Cuban Spiritual Leaders to Obama: Stop Deportations

35 “Cuban Exile Spiritual Guides” in Miami signed a letter to President Obama

Miami, FL – In anticipation to the National Day of Action “#Not1More Deportation” on Saturday, April 5th, the Florida Immigrant Coalition announces an important contribution of Cuban spiritual leaders who recently sent a letter to President Obama asking him to use his executive power to stop the separation of families.
The letter, signed by a group of 35 Cuban religious leaders of different religious denominations, was sent directly to President Obama on March 19. It reflects their moral concern about the separation of families: “As President, you have both the inherent as well as the executive powers to intervene and stop the inhuman deportation proceedings that are systematically taking place within our nation’s borders.”
It also asks President Obama to engage the U.S. Congress to pass just and equitable immigration laws.
The initiative has been supported by various Cuban groups including academics, who have issued a letter of support which is currently being distributed throughout the country.
Several signatories of the letter are available for interview. Please send an email to sammy@floridaimmigrant.org or natalia@floridaimmigrant.org
