Back To School Event to Inform Communities of Resent Changes to Immigration Programs

Miami, FL- Leaders from the Central American community, in collaboration with the Florida Immigrant Coalition (FLIC) and SEIU, host a Back-to-School informational forum to educate immigrant communities on recent changes to immigration programs, including the expansion of Central American Minors Program to include refugee children’s legal guardian, changes on immigration petition for families of legal permanent residents, and more information on in-state tuition available for undocumented students. An attorney will be available to answer questions regarding the recent announcements.

“Immigrant communities are in constant need of information and assistance to navigate our immigration system, specially now that many changes have been announced leaving benefitted families with even more unanswered questions.” said Julio Calderon, Access to Higher Education Organizer at FLIC. “We hope that this event can bring some much-needed clarity and create awareness around these programs.”

Organizing members of this forum will be canvassing surrounding neighborhoods leading up to the event and are working on replicating this effort in different communities to continue to inform immigrant families.
